The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi
has expressed his satisfaction with the choice of Barrister Femi
Kehinde as the candidate of the All Grassroots Alliance (AGA) at the September
Governorship elections in Osun State.
Oba Akanbi said the emergence of Kehinde, a former member of the
House of Representatives, aligned with his campaign for a son of Osun West
Senatorial District as successor to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
The traditional ruler said his endorsement of the candidate was
also informed by his confidence in the capability and competence of Kehinde,
whose track record in political development of the state is hard to forget by
the electorate.
“I am throwing my weight behind Barrister Kehinde based on the
good name he has long made for himself in public service as former member of
the House of Representatives. I maintain it that it is the turn of Osun West to
produce the next governor and I have no doubt that God will answer my prayer.
Kehinde, who was accompanied to the Iwo palace by the Minority Leader
of Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Ademola Ige, commended the Oluwo for
what he called the monarch’s consistent campaign for one of his subjects
emerging the next governor of the state. He pointed out that Oba Akanbi has
proved beyond reasonable doubt that he was divinely chosen to the throne going
by his disposition and welfarist policies in the town.
“I am particularly very proud to have you as my father
on the throne. My coming is to pay home to you firs after I won the party’s
ticket before open campaign starts. I am here to receive your blessing as a
child who desires to prosper should do. Long shall you reign in peace and good
health,” he said.
The former member of the House of Representatives said
he was in the race to revive the legacies left behind by the duo of the Late
Obafemi Awolowo and Bola Ige during their tenure in the defunct Western region
and old Oyo State respectively. He added that Osun State is still blessed with
enormous natural and human resources to grow beyond the position it currently
occupies among viable states in the country.
“It is a thing of sorrow recalling how our past
leaders failed to consolidate on the progress achieved for us by the Late sage,
Obafemi Awolowo and Bola Ige. The Television station which Bola set up in Iwo
should rank among the best in the world based on the quality of facilities
embedded in it. But where is it today? Successive governments wasted the huge
project,” he said.
